It started out as an average Monday morning at Carroll’s Jewelers, checking e-mails, viewing the weekend’s business, checking in new diamond shipments; but quickly turned into a very exciting morning. We have been piercing ears in our store for as long as I can remember and we never know who is going to request this service from us. This day, the request came from one of our former employees, Angelique. She is currently in her last semester of a B.A. degree in Business Administration. She had her niece Sophia in town visiting and believed that Sophia wanted to have her ears pierced; at least that is what Sophia had her mom and Aunt believing. Sophia strolled in just the cutest little two year old, curly pig tails, the prettiest brown eyes, and accessorized to the tee. She was missing only one accessory, earrings, and that was to be remedied before she left Carroll’s. We asked Sophia what her favorite color was, as we have a variety of starter studs accented with different colored stones. Green, “of course” she says which will go great with her cute little green shoes. We decide to distract her with some toys and classic books in the children area. She is very smart and knew something was about to happen. In less than a second her right ear is pierced with a green stone stud. Not knowing how to react she starts to cry but is quickly calmed knowing that it doesn’t hurt. Now the fun begins piercing the left ear. A very anxious Sophia sitting in her mother’s lap, with visions of ice cream promised to her, does not want the other ear done now. After a period of jockeying for position, by both Sophia and the rest of us, we find the right moment and done. And just like that we are all calm again and have matching green stud earrings. Now she is a big girl, just like mommy and Auntie Angelique. And thus starts the mother daughter love affair with all things chic.
